History

The Carla Company was established in Dvůr Králové nad Labem on a so-called greenfield site in 1992 and moved this city in the foothills of the Krkonoše Mountains another little bit forward in people’s awareness. Thanks to us, the city known above all in the past thanks to the textile industry and the zoo with its safari, has also become a city of chocolate over the past seventeen years. The company, which can be characterised as a 100% Czech family company, originally wanted “only to fill an empty space on the market” with chocolate icings for industrial processing. But it soon became clear that space was also to be found on the seemingly saturated retail market. For this reason, the flexible and ambitious company invested into technology and entered the retail sector at the end of the nineties.
The first products for end customers were, of course, chocolate icings. According to in-house information, the company nowadays holds up to 90 % of the market for 100g retail packs of chocolate icing. The retail product range was gradually extended to include other products: cocoa powders, confectionery decorations, cooking chocolate, chocolate bars and others. In 2004, the company started to produce the Laguna dessert – “fruits of the sea”, of which around 3.5 million packs are sold every year in the Czech Republic. According to the company’s monitoring, this is evidently the best selling box of chocolates on the Czech market.
Chocolate with cannabis was launched on the market in 2008. The hot new product for this year is Maretto – a marzipan dessert with cherry and orange filling.
